Linking from my blog, good info!

Wow, this article hits so close to home… I blog about this type of thing all the time over at my page http://wrathofnino.wordpress.com!

I am a recovering Wowaholic (yes, video games ARE an addiction), played for 2 years and almost lost my job, family and wife over my obsession. It was all I could think about, it dominated every waking moment of my conscious, (and unconscious at night) mind.

After years of emotional neglect, my family had finally had enough… I was grossly overweight, unhealthy, and a pain to deal with on a daily basis. I quit one night after things had finally hit rock bottom… gave away all my stuff, said goodbye to my online “friends” and signed off… been 6 months now and I am so happy! I have lost over 85lbs, my health is back and my relationship with my wife and daughter has never been stronger.

Yes, online gaming addiction DOES exist… still don't believe me, check out this website too http://www.wowdetox.com… sad testimony to something so devastating and so misunderstood.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Stories like yours are what motivated me to start to study video game addiction. I still recall the phone conversation I had four years ago with a young man who called me out of the blue desperate for help. “All I do is work and play Everquest. I don't sleep much, I eat junk food, and my social life has disappeared,” he told me. Not long after that a young woman driving a hotel van taking me from the Fargo airport to the conference center shared the pain she was experiencing in her marriage because “all my husband does is play video games.”

As you know, there are many who ridicule the very notion that video games can be addictive. All they have to do is talk with someone like yourself to realize that video game addiction is not a joke and needs to be recognized as a real problem.

Congratulations on the positive steps you have taken to restore balance to your life and to reclaim your relationships with your wife and daughter. Good luck.

    Dr. Dave
