About Us
The National Institute on Media and the Family is the world’s most respected research-based organization and leading expert on the positive and harmful effects of media on youth.
The Institute is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to maximize the benefits and minimize the harm of media on the health and development of children. Since 1996, the Institute has been a trusted voice for educators and families—helping them navigate the unique challenges of raising kids in the 21st century
The Say Yes to No (SYTN) program was created by Dr. David Walsh, founder of Institute, and his wife Monica Walsh.
In 2007, Dr. Walsh connected with parents and educators across the country with his book No: Why Kids – of All Ages – Need to Hear It and Ways Parents Can Say It. SYTN is an evidence-based, parent-tested extension of that work.
